Inspiring Transformations from Our Patients

Whether recovering from surgery or overcoming chronic stiffness, OrthoBike empowers you every step of the way.

  • “It was easy to use and very efficient. I love this bike and would highly recommend it for therapy.”

    Joanne

  • The OrthoBike allowed me to adjust the pedals and adapt my workout to a flexion angle which I was able to accommodate.

    Gary

  • I love seeing my knee going around. I haven’t ridden a bike in 30 years and I have already gone one mile today.

    Lois

  • I just had this knee replaced and the other will be done in a couple of weeks.

    Linda

  • When I first got on it the pedal was on the number one hole, and I was so elated that I could make the pedals go around. It was the first time that I could see my knees continuously move…It was pretty exciting to see a continuous movement of my legs rather than just up and bend and extend.  This bike is my number two therapist who was with me 24/7 whenever I needed it.

    Glenn

  • In the beginning the short pedal setting was difficult with the tension turned up, but as I did it I went from 25 RPM to 50 RPM, I was able to double it. It gives you the confident feeling that you are getting stronger, that it is getting easier to do.  I feel the short arc was really helpful as well as the other ROM exercises you could get with the bike.

    Don, TKA | Pain-Averse

  • I am almost 90 years old. I've had 5 surgeries on this knee; it hurts like hell all the time. But when I ride the OrthoBike, the pain goes away, and I walk out of here pain-free. I now believe the OB1 can get me the miracle of improving my knee, finally, and eliminating or at least reducing the pain. I have 10 degrees more flexion and I am taking 50% less pain medication since I started riding the OrthoBike.

    Bill, TKA | Multiple Procedures

  • The OrthoBike was able to extend my leg and get the flexibility back in through the adjustment of the pedals and the seat location. It was primarily, in my mind, through the use of the bike that I regained the normal use of my leg.

    Pete, TKA | Arthrofibrosis

  • This was instrumental in helping me do a rotation where I could not do a full rotation with the regular bike. It was causing too much pain. With your OrthoBike I could do it without causing the extreme pain and discomfort. I just feel that because of the way you can adjust the pedals—how much benefit it gave me

    David

  • The systematic progression from low ROM to high ROM by adjusting not just the seat but two things, the seat and the pedal, helped me move step-by-step to full ROM. I also liked it because the OrthoBike settings showed me where I was and where I was going.

    Tom

  • On day 2 post op, when I arrived home from the hospital, I was set up to ride the OrthoBike and I was able to get on and do about 10 minutes. We learned how to adjust the bike so that as soon as I was able I could change the bike to work on attaining more and more flexion. I was able to get on the bike every day and moved quickly through the adjustments, so that when I went for my two-week follow-up with the surgeon, he was amazed at how much flexion I had already, 110 degrees, even more than the other knee which I was only ever able to get about 100-105 degrees.

    Penny

  • The combination of utilizing your unique, one of a kind therapeutic tool under the guidance of the superior therapy team at Drayer Physical Therapy, changed my life for the better. Within several weeks I no longer required a walking aid to walk and within several months my range of motion had improved to the point of being able to ride a bike.  Considering from where I started, this was miraculous.

    Roger

  • Nothing was helping, like injections. I was scared to death that my knee would never bend again. It was stiff and swollen and hurt really bad. I had a lot of depression.

The OrthoBike let me increase my flexion little by little. I started at pedal 1 and the seat at 11 (for 60°) and finished today with the pedal all the way out at 5 and the seat at 4 (about 110°). That’s a lot of progress one step at a time, and I am very happy about it. I’m excited about it!

My progress encouraged me along the way the most because I could see that my knee would bend more and more and I could go up and down the stairs better. This gave me hope. I had thought it would never bend again.

I’m doing great. I did not lose hope.

I recommend the OrthoBike to anybody to try it with hope it will get your knee bending better. The bike made a big difference in my life…big time!

The Experts Trust OrthoBike

Why leading physical therapists recommend OrthoBike for better, faster recovery.

  • "I recommend the OrthoBike, in the hands of trained physical therapists, for the effective treatment of knee patients with arthrofibrosis and flexion contractures. I have been referring these patients to Drayer PTI since they obtained the OrthoBike in 2013. I am confident that the OrthoBike is a novel and critically important tool they effectively use to restore full ROM and quality of life in patients who have found rehabilitation to be more challenging than normal."

    William M. Parrish, MD

  • “I have been looking for this tool for 40 years. There’s nothing like it.

“It allows me to start a patient very early on a bike to get the advantages of repetitive cycling motion that helps to reduce the swelling and strengthens the quadriceps.

“It is easy for the staff to learn and to use, helps us do our job better, and makes the patients feel good.”

    Gary Schoenberger, senior PT

  • "We know that early motion is critical to help, both from the recovery and repair aspects, to stimulate the healing process. The problem is sometimes we are limited in what we can do…. So where the OrthoBike comes into play, is the systematic, progressive ROM…we can take this motion down to 55°…. They can do it very comfortably on the OrthoBike….

“We have seen the value of what it can do for patients. We didn’t have the capabilities to do this in the past. The premium cost in the front end—the reason we paid it is because there is a huge benefit on the back end."

Ryan Grube, MS, MSPT, FMS cert. Area manager, Drayer PTI

  • “Getting a patient on a bike early is, in my mind, an integral part of getting them functional early…. Then we show them the OrthoBike…and we convince them to try a full revolution, even at one of the low settings, they realize they can do it….

“It makes them want to do more, it makes them just so much more compliant with their program as a whole.”

Todd Harris, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS, FMS cert. Center manager, Drayer PTI

  • “The intermittent loading, touching the end range, starts to nudge that barrier further and further. And you can't do that reciprocal motion when they only have 75 degrees of flexion. They can't do this with a bicycle with a fixed-length crank.

“The OrthoBike allows that repetitive loading to remodel collagen at an earlier state, and frankly a state that not every patient is even capable of reaching without it. They can't get there without it.

“Because they are laying down scar tissue so fast, or their pain threshold is so low, whatever the situation…this bike allows it. This is differentiation.”

Greg Turner, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, MDT cert. Center manager, Drayer PTI

  • “The OrthoBike fills a void that was always there: how to do early mobilization therapy. The medical community has certainly moved to more aggressive and earlier therapy and efforts to push mobilization, so the OrthoBike with the adjustable cranks is what is needed.

“The problem is the standard bike does not have the adjustable crank and hand controls, so a patient gets on, loses control, impinges something, suffers serious pain, and never will go back to the bike.”

    -Home-health PT

  • “The OrthoBike’s niche is early range of motion therapy. It provides a path from surgery to more advanced therapy with clearly defined milestones that give the patient positive feedback and satisfaction as they progress. The patients like seeing progress in small steps where otherwise they wait until they get enough flexion and extension to ride the big bike.”

    Phil W., PTA

  • “I start all my knee patients on the OrthoBike. They get used to rotating their knees in short arcs at the beginning.”

    Frank K., senior PT
